Yes, I Learn from My Kids… A LOT!

001 When I was first pregnant, I thought a lot about all the things I was looking forward to teach Charbel when he arrived… the little things, like tying his shoe and saying please and thank you, and the bigger things, like believing in who he is and loving the Lord.

Now, that our two little ones are with us, I think a lot more about all they teach me…

002

I learn a lot when…

  • They smile and even laugh through their tears.
  • They run over to comfort each other when one cries.
  • They offer each other cookies or pretzels without being told to share.
  • They get up and keep walking (Paul), or running (Charbel), after falling down.

003

I learn a lot when…

  • Charbel keeps doing the same thing over and over, until he gets it right (he’s an independent little one!).
  • Charbel gives a stuffed animal to Paul because he doesn’t want him to be lonely.
  • Charbel tells me to “hug Daddy”.
  • Charbel stops what he’s doing and takes Paul’s hand to help him walk.
  • Charbel asks me to pray with him before bed.
  • Charbel “reads” a book to Paul.

004

I learn a lot when…

  • Paul patiently waits his turn to be taken out of the crib.
  • Paul offers his bottle of water to Charbel when Charbel runs out.
  • Paul happily sits on my lap, content to just be with me…
  • Paul has so much fun playing with his daddy.
  • Paul smiles and snuggles into me even after I’ve been impatient with him.

I learn so much about the basics in life and what’s really essential from them. Granted, they have their moments, refusing to share and throwing fits, but most of the time, when I watch them, I am amazed at how much innocence and goodness comes out. Another thing that has struck me several times is how fearless kids are. When they start out as babies, nothing fazes them – they aren’t afraid even of things they “should” be afraid of. They develop fear of things (or people) when they sense fear in us… Doing my best not to pass on unnecessary fears!

Hope all other mothers are enjoying their kids and learning from them as much as I am… it’s a wonderful part of life!
