16 Reasons I’m Thankful for My Parents

  • I’m thankful my parents brought me into this world; if they hadn’t, I wouldn’t be here today, and wouldn’t have two lovely kids of my own…
  • I’m thankful that my parents gave me many opportunities to learn about my faith. They didn’t just have me baptized; they TAUGHT me about my faith. I grew up learning not only what my faith teaches, but why it teaches it.  As a result, my faith isn’t nominal or just a family tradition; it’s something I really believe in and try to live out.
  • I’m thankful that my parents gave me a happy, secure childhood. I have many wonderful memories from my childhood, and hope my husband and I give our kids as much joy and security as my parents gave me.
  • I’m thankful my parents made sure we traveled as a family. Visiting different countries and being exposed to different cultures gave me a broader perspective on the meaning of life and what’s important.
  • I’m thankful that my parents taught me how to THINK. In our family, education wasn’t about getting all the facts right – it was about reflecting, evaluating, developing conclusions and justifying them… skills I’ve used constantly until now and will continue using for the rest of my life.
  • I’m thankful that my parents taught me moderation… in eating, drinking, dressing, thinking and acting…
  • I’m thankful my parents taught me to live by the old adage, “Believe all the good that you hear, and only the evil that you see.”
  • I’m thankful my parents taught me to help those in need. The people are more important than the time or money it takes.
  • I’m thankful my parents taught me to respect the elderly and appreciate their wisdom.
  • I’m thankful my parents helped me discover and develop my talents and interests.
  • I’m thankful my parents taught me the importance of spending time as a family.
  • I’m thankful that my parents showed me what true spousal love is all about through their example.
  • I’m thankful my parents taught me not to be afraid of trying new things.
  • I’m thankful that my parents introduced me to my husband. Yes, that’s right – my parents knew Eddy before I did! Who knows where I’d be or what I’d be doing now if they never introduced us!
  • I’m thankful that my parents are now such awesome grandparents to our little ones!
  • I’m thankful to my parents for loving me unconditionally.

The list could go on, but you get the idea. I have great parents, and I realize even more all that I learned from them now that I’m an adult and have a family of my own. I hope that all of you also think back on your childhood with fondness and have countless reasons to thank your parents!

Thank-you,-Mom-and-Dad
